Encourage your students to write news stories about what they are reading, or about the authors whose works they are reading.  We’re not as interested in social commentary at this stage, what we are looking for in Grade Nine is colourful, descriptive narrative.  Certainly, social commentary can come into play if the student is able to integrate those observations into his/her pieces or speeches.  Use a video or audio recorder to capture speeches.

If possible, try to make plans to see a live production of at least one of the above plays.  Alternately, you may wish to borrow a film of one of the plays from your video rental store, or public library.
