These blocks may be done in any order.
Block One:: Chemistry
- Week One:: Periodic Table (its history and arrangement)
- Week Two:: Selected elements, their properties, and affects on the human body
- Week Three::Building/illustrating molecular models (fun to do with marshmallows and pretzel sticks with the younger sibs!)
- Week Four (optional):: Various experiments
Block Two:: Electricity and Magnets
- Week One:: Discovery and types of electricity (triboelectricity, magnetism, electromagnestism), charges, fields, and interactions.
- Week Two:: Uses of electricity – generators, motors, transformers
- Week Three:: Building a simple circuit
- Week Four (optional):: Tesla Coil
Block Three::Botany
- Week One:: Growth process from germination through seed-setting, orderliness and lawfulness of nature
- Week Two:: Plant Families and their Characteristics, including nutrients, and relationships with animals and other plants.
- Week Three:: Needs of plants in general, and of certain common plants in particular, affects of the environment on native and cultivated plants.
- Week Four (optional):: Classification and naming (Latin) of plants, botanical sketches/watercolours.
Science Track(optional):: Farm School
Farm school will help students to better understand the delicate balance and interrelationships of a (somewhat) closed ecosystem – an organic farm. Rotational grazing, careful plant choices, beneficial animal life, companion planting, water collection and conservation, and more will be explored over the entire seasonal cycle of a farm.
