In Grade 11, students have been studying the middle ages and renaissance. In art, students will explore portraiture and religious themes in various media from sketching, to painting, to clay and stone sculpture.
Art track (2-3 day/week):: Students will produce an illuminated manuscript (using the Irish books of the Gospels as inspiration) drawn from any book of the Bible, or other selected literary work. Students will bind the manuscript using techniques they learn through the year. This also offers an opportunity to practice the calligraphy students learn in Grade 10.
Students may also wish to produce free-hand embroideries inspired by those of the time; and to create period costume which may also be used in production of one or more plays from English studies.
There are many excellent collections of Medieval and Renaissance art at museums in every major city. Try to make plans to visit sometime during the year.
